CLIP Intermodal orders Alstom Traxx 3 MS locos

The order is for 13 multi-system locomotives homologated for rail traffic in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg, and Poland.

The contract also includes two years of preventive maintenance during the warranty period.

The Alstom site in Kassel will produce the units, while the company's facility in Wrocław will manufacture the locomotive bodies.

The manufacturer underlined in a press release:

The third-generation Traxx multi-system locomotives [...] are designed to handle heavier loads compared to other locomotives in the same class. Units ordered by the CLIP Group can reach a top speed of 160 km per hour. [They] will be equipped with the leading signalling system Onvia (formerly known as Atlas), Alstom's onboard solution for the European Train Control System (ETCS).

Agnieszka Hipś, CEO of the CLIP Group, underscored:

Following the expansion of our Intermodal Terminal in Swarzędz, the purchase of modern multi-system locomotives is another milestone in the development of the CLIP Group. As our terminal has eight reloading tracks, with an annual capacity of over 1 million TEU, and our own fleet accounts to 500 intermodal wagons, it has been natural for us to invest in our own locomotives.

She furthered:

I am convinced that Traxx locomotives will strengthen the position of CLIP Intermodal, contributing to the further development of sustainable and low-emission European transport corridors. We focus on intermodal transport as it has huge potential, especially in the context of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The development of this type of transport is also the best response to the challenges that stand in the way of improving network capacity and traffic safety in transport.

Sławomir Cyza, Alstom’s Managing Director for Poland, Ukraine and the Baltic States, also commented:

The third generation of Traxx locomotives is an investment for a future focused on effective and environmentally conscious intermodal transport. We are proud that Alstom's modern solutions have supported the growth of this industry in Poland for many years while helping logistics operators achieve their strategic goals. The contract with CLIP Intermodal marks our first delivery of locomotives to a domestic, private operator in the European France-Poland corridor. I am convinced that Traxx locomotives will contribute to the further development of a sustainable and low-emission Trans-European Transport Network.
