According to the terminal operator, the completion of the £300m investment will "coincide with the delivery of a new wave of 24,000 TEU vessels in 2023/2024, which will all be operated between Asia and Europe."

DP World's London Gateway currently comprises three 17 m-deep berths, giving the terminal an annual handling capacity of 2.4m TEUs.

Over 2021's first half, London Gateway handled 888k TEUs, 23% more on its previous all-time high half-year result.

Apart from the fourth berth, there's space for two more at London Gateway.
