The Icelandic and Greenlandic shipping lines have partnered to jointly offer a service connecting the islands of Iceland and Greenland with a number of Baltic seaports.

Royal Arctic Line’s (RAL) container ship Tukuma Arctica has already been delivered and will be joined in early July by Eimskip’s Dettifoss and by end-October by Brúarfoss (all 180 m-long and 31 m-wide ships have 2,150 TEUs of carrying capacity).

The three vessels will serve the Red Line, covering the Baltic ports of Aarhus, Aalborg and Helsingborg, the Icelandic Reykjavík, and the Greenlandic Nuuk.

“This is an historic event for Eimskip, not only are we receiving a new and modern vessel, the largest one that has ever been in the Company’s service, but at the same time we are commencing a co-operation with the national carrier of Greenland, Royal Arctic Line. The co-operation connects RAL to Eimskip’s global network and opens up possibilities for the Greenlandic market as well as commencing weekly services between Iceland and Greenland. In the future this will create opportunities to increase trade between the two countries,” Vilhelm Már Þorsteinsson, CEO, Eimskip, commented.
