Longer trains tested in Sweden

An 835 m-long container train set has crossed the Öresund/Øresund Bridge, connecting the German Maschen with the Swedish Malmö via Denmark.

Apart from the northern Ore Line, where trains have 750 m in length, the standard set on the Swedish trunk network is 630 m-long, making it possible to carry up to 41 45-foot containers. An 835 m-long train can be loaded with 55 units.

The Swedish Transport Administration, DB Cargo, and the German and Danish rail infrastructure managers have carried out the test.

The trial has executed out within the FR8RAIL II project, part of the European research and innovation programme Shift2Rail.
