Rail track sharing in Antwerp

DP World Antwerp has made it possible for the nearby MSC PSA European Terminal (MPET) to make use of the rail infrastructure it has access to.

The two parties operate their facilities at the Deurganck Dock; however, located at its east side MPET has no rail connection.

The agreement has led to MPET establishing a 100 TEU-big transfer zone in order for the adjacent terminals to exchange containers.

"The initiative is in line with the Port of Antwerp's ambitions to boost the share of container transport carried by rail: from its present level of 8% to 15% by 2030. By optimising the existing capacity, the initiative ensures the continued growth of the port and intermodal transport," the Port of Antwerp wrote in a press release.
