The Sundsvall-based shipping company has added the Swedish port to its Container Express service that links Sweden with the Netherlands on a weekly basis.

The first call was made on December 4^th by SCA Tunadal, which together with SCA Munksund ply now between the ports of Rotterdam, Oxelösund, Sundsvall, and Umeå. Both ships offer 877 TEU of carrying capacity.

"In times when the Swedish transport system is in a need for a change, this move arrives in timely fashion as it matches a strategy of shifting goods from the roads onto the sea. Being an eco-friendly alternative, short sea container services can alleviate Europe's road truck traffic to a considerable degree," Erik Zetterlund, CEO, the Port of Oxelösund, commented.

He then added, "Oxelösund is a very important industrial port, but these days we are handling more and more consumer goods as well. This new service adds new time- and cost-effective solutions that meet the market's demand. An early call in the week is a competitive advantage for those who want to reach the Stockholm region quickly."
