Sweden's first container barge service

The 2012-built Emelie Deymann, operated by the German Reederei Deymann, will start sailing between the ports in Norvik and Västerås this April.

The 110 m-long and 11.45 m-wide barge, capable of carrying up to 208 TEUs, will serve the route in question with two sailings per week.

"In Germany alone, more cargo goes along the inland waterways than in Sweden is carried with the use of trucks and trains. It is possible that the service could also cover other ports in the Lake Mälar, further unburdening the land network," Anders Wihlborg, CEO, Barge Transport Sweden, an organisation that promotes inland shipping in Sweden, commented.
