WALLENIUS SOL links Vaasa with Antwerp and Zeebrugge

Following a long-term co-op struck with Wärtsilä, the shipping line will be offering as of November a weekly ro-ro & container service between the ports in question.

Wärtsilä is setting up its new centre in Vaasa's Vaskiluoto, the so-called Smart Technology Hub, due to come online in 2021. The company wants to route its northbound deliveries via Belgium. In the opposite direction, in turn, WALLENIUS SOL's ships will carry on behalf of Wärtsilä the company's ready-made engines.

However, the new service will be open to other parties wanting to ship their unitised freight between Finland and Belgium.

"These long-term industrial co-operations are where we see the future growth for WALLENIUS SOL, and we are very happy about the trust given to us by Wärtsilä. The need for more tailor-made solutions is evident in the Baltic region," Ragnar Johansson, Managing Director, WALLENIUS SOL, commented.

Vesa Riihimäki, Managing Director, Wärtsilä Finland, added to this, "The transition of Wärtsilä's production to the Smart Technology Hub in Vaskiluoto fosters the development of new, environmentally friendly options. The new route enables a consolidation of the road transportation to sea and an optimization of our logistical solutions."
