Ystad's new ferry berths - tested

On 25 November, Polferries's Mazovia and Unity Line's Skania called to the Swedish port's brand-new port area, completed with the help of EU funds after one and a half years of construction works.

Apart from the new berthing places, suitable for ferries up to 240 m in length, the investment also gave Ystad new areas for vehicle arrival as well as for customs and border control.

From the turn of the year, the new ferry berths will be used regularly.

"We are very happy to finalize this comprehensive project. The Port of Ystad now has good conditions to continue to grow on both the passenger and freight side. We look forward to welcoming current and future shipping companies in our new port," Björn Boström, CEO, the Port of Ystad, commented.

He furthered, "Before the advent of the pandemic, the Port of Ystad broke records for several years in a row. Expanding the port has been a prerequisite for being able to continue to grow and to contribute to growth and jobs not only in Ystad but in the entire region."

According to the port's vision, some 5.8mt are to be handled in 2032, including over 500k ro-ro cargo units in traffic with Denmark, Germany, and Poland, along with serving around 3.8m ferry & cruise passengers.
