Construction works start on Finnlines' second new Superstar

Steel cutting has begun for Finncanopus, the second in a series of two ferries to be delivered by China Merchants Jinling Shipyard in Weihai in 2023.

The 1A Super ice class ro-pax will be 235 m-long, offering room for 1,100 passengers and 5,200 lane metres of cargo capacity.

Together with her sistership, Finnsirius, Finncanopus will sail on the Naantali–Långnäs–Kapellskär service.

Both will connect to shore power and feature several other emission reduction solutions, including scrubbers, waste heat recovery, a battery pack, and air lubrication. They will also have ballast water treatment systems.

The ferries are part of Finnlines' €500m-big tonnage renewal programme that also includes three hybrid 5,800 lane metres ro-ros (the first will be delivered this autumn, while the remaining two later in 2022 to serve the company's Biscay-North Sea-Baltic Sea route).
