Ekol launches a new ro-ro route

The Turkish transport & logistics company has put in place a new service that links the Greek Port of Lavrio and the French harbour in Sète.

The connection is served by the 2009-built, GT 29k-big, 193 m-long, and 26 m-wide ro-ro vessel Hatche. She departs from Lavrio on Wednesdays, while from Sète on Sundays. The transit time in both directions is the same - five days.

In addition, in Sète there's an option of transhipping the cargo onto Ekol's block trains heading to Paris and Zeebrugge.

"It is good to add that we have also been offering other intermodal connections for the last years. Our Ro-Ros from Lavrio go to Turkey and/or Trieste and this new connection extends our intermodal network," Dimitris Batakis, Country Manager, Ekol Greece, commented.

He added "Our goal in Ekol is to offer environmentally friendly services and to strengthen our presence in Europe. Thanks to the intermodal solutions offered, our company 'saves' 365,000 trees per month (which is equivalent to a forest the size of 850 football pitches) and enough petrol to go around the globe 365 times."
