Lower tariffs to get empties back to China

United Transport and Logistics Company - Eurasian Rail Alliance (UTLC ERA) - a JV between Belarusian, Kazakh, and Russian railways - has reduced tariffs, even up to 50%, for the transportation of empty 40- and 45-foot general purpose containers to China.

"I am certain this will bring about new growth points for container logistics. Diversion of empty containers towards the rail, on one hand, will balance container flows in the East-West corridor, whereas stabilizing the departure of container trains and increasing the frequency of dispatches on the other," Alexey Grom, CEO, UTLC ERA, explained.

He added, "Furthermore, this will improve the container turnover rate on the China-Europe trade lane and would allow to avert the shortage of containers for loading in China."
