Smyril Line to launch a new FO-IS-DK service

The Faroese shipping company has taken over from Bore the ro-ro vessel Bore Bank, which under a new name, Akranes, will sail between the Faroe Islands, Iceland, and Denmark.

The 138 m-long and 23 m-wide vessel, offering 1,500 lane metres of cargo capacity, will ply between the ports of Tórshavn, Thorlakshöfn, and Hirtshals as of mid-January 2020.

Akranes, which will fly the Faroese flag, will become the fifth vessel in Smyril Line's fleet.

"Smyril Line's expansion of traffic does not come as a surprise to the Port of Hirtshals. Over the past years, Smyril Line has shown considerable drive which has meant continuous and strategically well-founded growth at the shipping company," Jens Kirketerp Jensen, Managing Director, the Port of Hirtshals, commented on the occasion.
